Verse 5.12

युक्तः कर्मफलं त्यक्त्वा शान्तिमाप्नोति नैष्ठिकीम्। अयुक्तः कामकारेण फले सक्तो निबध्यते।।5.12।।

yuktaḥ karma-phalaṁ tyaktvā śhāntim āpnoti naiṣhṭhikīm ayuktaḥ kāma-kāreṇa phale sakto nibadhyate

Meaning

The person who's all chill and doesn't care about the payout gets eternal peace. But the person who's all about the reward? They're totally stuck.

Commentary

Okay, so like, the chill person who, like, totally ditches the whole 'what's in it for me?' thing, ends up, like, totally zen. But the person who's all, 'OMG, I NEED THAT REWARD!'? Yeah, they're stuck in the system. It's all about that pure devotion, you know? Like, you gotta be pure of mind, know your stuff, let go of the need for results, and stay wise. But if you're all about the 'I did this, so I deserve that' mindset? You're screwed.
