Verse 3.35

श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात्। स्वधर्मे निधनं श्रेयः परधर्मो भयावहः।।3.35।।

śhreyān swa-dharmo viguṇaḥ para-dharmāt sv-anuṣhṭhitāt swa-dharme nidhanaṁ śhreyaḥ para-dharmo bhayāvahaḥ

Meaning

It's way better to do your own thing, even if it's kinda trash, than to do someone else's thing perfectly. Dying doing your own thing is better than living doing someone else's thing, which is straight-up sus.

Commentary

Bro, like, seriously, it's way better to, like, die doing your own thing, even if it's kinda sus, than to, like, totally slay at someone else's gig. Doing someone else's job is a total minefield, no cap. A warrior's gotta fight, that's their whole vibe. Arjuna? Dude needs to fight. That's his jam. Even if he dies doing it? It's still better. He's going to the big chill in the sky. He shouldn't even try to do someone else's thing. That's straight-up risky. He can't just ditch the fight and become a monk or something. (See 18.47)
