Verse 2.19

य एनं वेत्ति हन्तारं यश्चैनं मन्यते हतम्। उभौ तौ न विजानीतो नायं हन्ति न हन्यते।।2.19।।

ya enaṁ vetti hantāraṁ yaśh chainaṁ manyate hatam ubhau tau na vijānīto nāyaṁ hanti na hanyate

Meaning

Whoever thinks the Self is the slayer, and whoever thinks it's the one getting slayed—both of them are totally clueless. The Self doesn't slay, and it can't be slayed.

Commentary

Bro, like, the Self is totally chill and doesn't do anything, right? It's, like, immutable, so it's not even involved in, like, the whole slaying thing. Anyone who's tripping about 'I slayed' or 'I got slayed'—using their body or ego—is totally missing the point. The Self is indestructible, existing through past, present, and future. It's the real deal, the existence. When your body dies, the Self is still vibing. Bodies change, that's life, but the Self is totally unaffected. Verses 19, 20, 21, 23, and 24 are all about the Self's immortality, BTW. (See also XVIII.17)
