Verse 18.47

श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात्।स्वभावनियतं कर्म कुर्वन्नाप्नोति किल्बिषम्।।18.47।।

śhreyān swa-dharmo viguṇaḥ para-dharmāt sv-anuṣhṭhitāt svabhāva-niyataṁ karma kurvan nāpnoti kilbiṣham

Meaning

It's better to do your own thing, even if it's kinda lame, than to do someone else's thing perfectly. If you do what you're supposed to do, you're good.

Commentary

Bro, like, even if your own thing is kinda sus, it's still better than trying to do someone else's gig and messing it up. It's all about doing your own thing, that's what's up. It's like, that poison ain't gonna hurt the worm that lives in it, right? Same with your own dharma. It's your jam, it's not gonna get you in trouble. What's toxic to everyone else might be sweet to you, but that doesn't mean you should go around chugging toxic stuff. Your duty is your duty, even if it's hard AF. Trying to do someone else's thing is straight up dangerous. If you don't know yourself, you're always gonna be doing something, no cap.
