Verse 18.1

अर्जुन उवाच संन्यासस्य महाबाहो तत्त्वमिच्छामि वेदितुम्। त्यागस्य च हृषीकेश पृथक्केशिनिषूदन।।18.1।।

arjuna uvācha sannyāsasya mahā-bāho tattvam ichchhāmi veditum tyāgasya cha hṛiṣhīkeśha pṛithak keśhi-niṣhūdana

Meaning

Arjuna said, "Yo, Hrishikesa, my dude, I need the lowdown on Sannyasa and Tyaga. Hit me with the truth, Kesi-slayer."

Commentary

OMG, this whole Gita thing is like, *so* summarized in this convo. It's the ultimate recap of everything before. Arjuna's all, 'Yo Krishna, spill the tea on Sannyasa and Tyaga – what's the *actual* diff?' FYI, Kesi was this demon Krishna totally wrecked, so Arjuna's using that as a total flex. Sannyasa and Tyaga have been mentioned before, but it's all kinda vague. Krishna's about to drop some serious knowledge.
