Verse 15.16

द्वाविमौ पुरुषौ लोके क्षरश्चाक्षर एव च।क्षरः सर्वाणि भूतानि कूटस्थोऽक्षर उच्यते।।15.16।।

dvāv imau puruṣhau loke kṣharaśh chākṣhara eva cha kṣharaḥ sarvāṇi bhūtāni kūṭa-stho ’kṣhara uchyate

Meaning

Yo, there are two types of peeps in this world: the ones that are, like, totally gonna fade, and the ones that are, like, forever. Everyone's gonna fade eventually, except for the Kutastha—that's the unchanging one.

Commentary

Okay, so the Lord is dropping some major knowledge about the divine, right? There are three vibes: 1. The individual soul, which is, like, totally perishable. 2. The imperishable, which is the Lord's Maya Sakti (think of it as the ultimate illusion). 3. Purushottama, the Supreme Being, who's straight-up GOAT. Everything that's changing, from Brahma to a blade of grass, that's all the perishable stuff. It's all made of the five elements, it's got names and forms, it's all the stuff you see with your eyes. It's the whole 'body and modifications of the field' thing from Chapter 13. It's Kshara, the ever-changing, inert matter. Akshara is the opposite—the unchanging. In Samsara, there are two groups of beings, the Purushas. Maya Sakti, the Lord's illusion power, is the seed of the perishable. It's where all the desires and actions are stored. It's the Akshara Purusha. The unmanifest state is like deep sleep—no consciousness, just potential. It's where everything is latent, like a tree in a seed. Matter and energy are one, all the Gunas are balanced. The imperishable is the Kutastha—the immovable, the root of everything. Kuta can also mean illusion, so Kutastha is the one that manifests in different illusions. It's the thing that hides the truth and shows the false, deceiving peeps. It's the AvaranaVikshepa Sakti (the veiling and vacillating power). This Maya Sakti can't be destroyed without Self-knowledge, so it's endless, imperishable. But when you get that Brahman knowledge, the illusion vanishes. Purushottama, the highest Purusha, is different from the other two. He's not affected by the bad stuff of the perishable and imperishable. He's eternal, pure, intelligent, and free.
