Meaning

Yo, the Supreme Self is like, totally timeless and without any qualities, this ultimate, indestructible being. Even though it's chillin' in the body, Arjuna, it's not doing anything or getting messed up by anything.

Commentary

Okay, so the Supreme Self is like, totally beyond nature, right? It's got no qualities, it's *nirguna*. All the action stuff in nature? That's because of nature's own vibes. The Supreme Self was *always* there, before the body even existed, and it'll still be there after we're all gone. It's like, eternally the same, unbreakable, *avyaya*. Think of it like this: a sun's reflection in water moves, but the sun itself doesn't budge. The Supreme Self is not affected by actions because it's not the one *doing* them. It's got no qualities, no parts, no action, no beginning, it's just... *there*. It's beyond all those differences – like, a mango tree is different from a fig tree (that's one type of difference), a mango tree is different from a rock (another type), and even on one mango tree, the leaves, flowers, and fruit are different (yet another type). But the Supreme Self? It's one of a kind, no duplicates. This world? It's all an illusion, a total mind-trip. It's like a fake snake on a rope – the snake isn't real, it's just a trick of the light. The Supreme Self is indivisible, no parts, no qualities, no form, no limbs. It's *always* been there, no cause, it just *is*. It's unattached, so it's not the one doing stuff or enjoying the results. If it *was* the doer and enjoyer, it wouldn't be the Supreme Self anymore. It's the ego that thinks it's in charge, because of ignorance. It's nature that's actually doing all the acting.
